146. WHY WAS THERE A BAN FOR FISHING ON SATURDAYS?
Once, Jews had been ordered not to fish on Saturdays. This verse 16:124 says that such a command was laid upon them only as punishment for they worshipped not Allah but other deities.
Generally no community was ever restricted earning after they have finished their prayers. But for the Jews it had been commanded that they should not earn not only during prayers but for the whole day i.e., on Saturdays.
The reason for such prohibition was that when Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) established the policy of monotheism, the Jews who followed him, shifted their path and worshipped the idol of a cow. We can know it from the phrase “on those who differed Ibrahim”.
