223. It was Ismail who was sacrificed
We know that Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) came forward to sacrifice his son Ismail, who was one of the two sons, Ismail and Isaac. Certain people have said it was Isaac. But this Quranic verse 11:71, has proved that it is wrong.
According to this verse, the tidings of the birth of grandson Yaqub also had been revealed in advance to Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) while revealing the tidings of the birth of the son, Isaac.
So, it had been conveyed to Prophet Ibrabim (pbuh) through the above tidings of the birth of Yaqub, that Isaac would not die prematurely and he would father Yaqub through marriage.
Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) could not be subjected to a trial of sacrificing Isaac, after the above tidings were conveyed. There could not be any grand sacrifice if Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) who came forward to sacrifice his son, Isaac.
Anybody would come forward to do this if he knew certainly that his son would not die prematurely. Hence, why Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) was commanded to sacrifice his son Ismail? Then it would certainly be a trial on both of them (Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) and his son Ismail).
