53. RULES OF WAR

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions were expelled from Makka. Deprived of their houses, properties and comforts they reached Madina and established a separate rule.

The wars were made obligatory by Allah since the people of Makka (those who were against Islam) who were transgressing even after Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his followers had come over to Madina. They harassed and even killed the few believers of Islam who remained in Makka.

Islam used only such harshness which is very much lesser than the harshness that any country would apply over the aggressive countries.

The commands such as 'kill' 'hack' ete. , are to be implemented in the battle fields. In battle fields this would be the procedure to be followed.

Encounters would be waged against those who invaded

(QURAN 2:190, 9:13)

Encounters would be waged only against those who expelled them from the native place (Quran 2: 191, 22:40)

No encounters would be waged against those who ceased war (Quran 2:192)

Encounters would be waged for the benefit of feeble men, women and children on whom injustice was inflicted (Quran: 4:75, 22:39—40)

No encounters would be waged for propagating Islam. (Quran 8:61)

No encounters would be waged for propagating Islam. (Quran 2:256, 9:6, 109:6)

Islam says that any Muslim Government could wage war only if there is valid ground. It would be wrong if either any individual or group of people take part in violent activities under the guise of 'Jihad',

Nobody could blame if those who are expelled from the native place, fight and redeem their lost rights. On that basis only war was waged against Makka.

At the same time there is a rule that wars will not be initiated (Quran 2:190, 9:12, 13)
