60. THE MEANING OF ‘DEPARTING IN TWO DAYS’

When Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) attempted to sacrifice his son, Shaitan tried to mislead him. So, Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) drove him (Shaitan) away by throwing stones.

It is one of the rituals in Hajj to throw small stones in that place to symbolize that we would also drive away Shaitan if he does any mischief to us.

Throwing of stones should be done for three days. If anybody had to depart urgently they could do it for two days and depart. They could avoid the throwing of stone on the third day. This is what is said in this Quranic verse (Quran 2:203). It can be understood only through the elucidation of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Hence we can realize that Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) elucidation is essential for the understanding of Quran.
