226. Prayers performed five times a day
In this verse 11:114, it is mentioned as some hours of the night (some parts of the night) in plural form.
According to Arabic grammar, the plural would specify a minimum of three.
To specify twain, one another word is used in Arabic language. Hence, only if there were three prayers during night, then only it could be said as “hours (parts) of night “.
So it signifies three prayers namely, Maghrib, Isha and Subuh. ‘At the two ends of the day’ signifies two prayers, i.e.,the main prayers namely Zuhar, and Asr are only implied here.
It has been generally implied in Quran that there are prayers (to be performed five times a day) so, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has clearly elucidated about this (i.e., prayers to be performed five times a day) on the basis of what has been said in Quran.
Those who contend that prayers are to be performed only three times a day would only contradict Quran and Hadith.
