232. Who said ‘Had not betrayed’?
There is no difference of opinion in deciding that what has been said in 51st verse of chapter 12 is the utterance of the wife of Aziz. But, there is difference of opinion in deciding that whose utterance has appeared in the main verses which follow the verse 10:51.
Certain people say that they are also the utterance of the wife of Aziz, but the words which appear in this verse prove that they cannot be the utterance, of wife of Aziz.
In the verse 12:52 the following phrases have appeared, “I did not betray him in secret”. Certainly, the wife of Aziz could not have told this.
Since actually she had betrayed in the previous verse, (12:51) we find that, she (wife of Aziz) is admitting her mistake while she uttered, “I only tried to seduce him, he is surely of the truthful”.
If she says again ‘I did not betray’, will certainly contradict the ‘the previous utterance.
Hence, it is Yusuf (pbuh) who alone would be the proper person for uttering “I did not betray him in secret”.
If the verse 12:52 was the utterance of Yusuf (pbuh), then the verse (12:53) which follows that, also could be his utterance. We can understand that it is wrong to say that this (12:53) is the utterance of the wife of Aziz, if we look at the verse 12:52.
